On Friday, memory chip stocks experienced a broad uptick in the US market, with Western Digital Corp (NASDAQ: WDC) and Seagate Technology Holdings PLC (NASDAQ: STX) both climbing more than 3%. SanDisk Corp (NASDAQ: SNDK) advanced over 2%, while Micron Technology Inc (NASDAQ: MU) and SK Hynix Inc (OTC: SKHY) added more than 1% each.
According to reports, Solidigm is currently evaluating potential sites on the US East Coast for a new facility, with discussions underway covering details such as product portfolio and mass production timelines. However, the final scale of investment and construction plans remain contingent on the progress of negotiations for long-term agreements (LTAs) with customers.
Solidigm was established following SK Hynix's acquisition of Intel's NAND flash memory business in 2021, and it now oversees the related NAND operations. On September 16, reports emerged that SK Hynix was in talks with Intel regarding potential collaboration on memory chip production in the US, though the company subsequently clarified that no specific partner had been finalized and that no concrete plans for US-based memory chip manufacturing had been confirmed.
