China Investment Corporation (CIC) has unveiled another significant move to bolster regional financial cooperation.

On September 8, at the 26th China International Fair for Investment and Trade in Xiamen, CIC, alongside Indonesia's Investment Authority (INA), Azerbaijan's State Oil Fund (SOFAZ), Thailand's Government Pension Fund (GPF), and Malaysia's Khazanah Nasional, jointly announced the formation of the China-ASEAN Joint Investment Council (CAJIC). Malaysia's Kumpulan Wang Persaraan (KWAP) has also officially signed on as a member of CAJIC.

Established at the initiative of CIC, CAJIC will operate with Galaxy Overseas, the overseas subsidiary of China Galaxy Securities, serving as its secretariat. This platform, created for sovereign investors, aims to channel capital, expertise, and leadership from China and ASEAN through regular dialogues, annual forums, thematic research, and executive study programs. The initiative is designed to deepen partnerships among members, expand cross-border investment opportunities, and foster a more resilient and sustainable China-ASEAN investment ecosystem, serving as a vital mechanism for promoting practical two-way cooperation.

Senior representatives from the participating institutions emphasized that, as long-term investors, they see growing potential in the China-ASEAN corridor. They view CAJIC as an essential avenue for ongoing investment collaboration between the two regions. Through CAJIC, the parties plan to strengthen dialogue and share research to better evaluate opportunities and risks, transforming collective knowledge into prudent, long-term investment strategies that encourage greater two-way capital flows between China and ASEAN.

The council celebrated its official launch on September 8, 2026, at the 26th China International Fair for Investment and Trade held in Xiamen.
