The construction phase for the flight zone of the second runway project at Shenyang Taoxian International Airport officially commenced on September 17th, marking a pivotal advancement in the long-awaited expansion of the aviation hub for the region. This milestone represents a significant step forward for the development of civil aviation in both Shenyang and the broader Liaoning Province.

Designated as a key project under the "15th Five-Year Plan" for both the province and the city, the initiative is viewed as a century-defining endeavor with far-reaching implications. Once operational, the new runway is projected to accommodate an annual passenger throughput of 45 million travelers and handle up to 400,000 tons of cargo and mail.

The construction of this second runway is deemed a critical response to the current capacity constraints, aiming to significantly enhance the airport's comprehensive support capabilities. Beyond addressing immediate operational needs, the project serves as a strategic initiative to support Shenyang's ambition of becoming an internationally influential central city in Northeast Asia and a key international comprehensive transportation hub. Furthermore, it acts as a concrete step to bolster the comprehensive revitalization of Liaoning Province and facilitate deeper integration into the Belt and Road Initiative.

Thanks to robust support from both provincial and municipal governments, coupled with active cooperation from military units and civil aviation authorities, the project's preliminary phase has been expedited. Construction activities, including ground improvement and earthwork for the flight zone, will now proceed, with the entire project slated for completion by 2029. Deputy Governor of Liaoning Province, Chu Tianyun, attended the launch ceremony.
