A new project has been approved in Guangdong Province that will significantly expand domestic production of key battery materials, adding a combined 4,000 tonnes of annual capacity for both lithium and sodium battery anodes alongside other advanced carbon products.

The Maoming Municipal Ecology and Environment Bureau has published the post-approval public notice for the environmental impact report concerning Maoming Chuangneng Encarbon Technology Co., Ltd. The company plans to build a comprehensive facility to produce 50,000 tonnes of liquid crystal high-carbon materials, 2,000 tonnes of sodium battery anode materials, 2,000 tonnes of lithium battery anode materials, and 1,000 tonnes of super microporous carbon each year.

The project site is situated along the middle section of Jinhui Avenue, Jinshan Street, in Gaozhou City, Maoming. It will be developed within the Guangdong Gaozhou Jinshan Economic Development Zone. The plan involves dismantling the existing oil product storage tank area that belongs to the former Maoming Chuangneng Fuel Chemical Co., Ltd. and constructing new production workshops on that cleared land along with adjacent reserved space.

Using ethylene tar, catalytic slurry oil, and medium-temperature asphalt as raw materials for deep processing, the facility will produce a diversified portfolio of high-value carbon products. The breakdown of annual output includes 50,000 tonnes of liquid crystal high-carbon materials, 2,000 tonnes of lithium battery anode materials, 2,000 tonnes of sodium battery anode materials, and 1,000 tonnes of super microporous carbon, positioning the project as a meaningful contributor to the growing new energy materials supply chain in the region.
