Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy issued a statement early Friday local time, reporting that a Togo-flagged oil tanker was struck and forced to stop while attempting an "illegal" passage through the Strait of Hormuz the previous night.
IRIB News reported a fire broke out onboard the vessel, identified by the statement as the "Trend." The IRGC warned that any unauthorized transit of the strait would result in the destruction of the offending ship.
