At the 2026 Tech Innovation Conference held today, 邵天兰, founder and CEO of Mech-Mind Robot, shared several forward-looking insights. On the technological front, he argued that intelligent robotics represent the future, but humanoid robots do not, because manufacturing and logistics environments are designed around products and production lines, not human shapes, making a human-like form unnecessary in those settings.
Second, he noted that the primary cost in robotic solutions is not the machinery itself, but the engineering effort involved, as custom design, development modifications, and on-site commissioning consume far more time than the hardware. Third, he pointed out that automation challenges in manufacturing and logistics remain largely unresolved. Fourth, he identified scalability as the biggest hurdle, proposing a product maturity roadmap from level 0 to 10, where level 6 marks the point at which R&D staff are no longer needed, level 8 enables mass replication, and levels 9 to 10 are required before profitability becomes achievable.
He also issued a specific warning that "premature expansion" is a significant trap for embodied intelligence firms. Additionally, he highlighted three major difficulties in the robotics industry: long technology chains, extremely high reliability requirements, and fragmented demand. "In academia, for instance, it is enough to outperform previous work, but for real-world deployment, a 99% success rate means roughly one error every three minutes—that is a very high standard," he said.
Finally, 邵天兰 asserted that the competition for intelligent robots comes not from other robots, but from human labor and specialized machines. Regarding product-market fit for embodied intelligence, he outlined three hard criteria: meeting functional and reliability requirements, enabling efficient replication, and delivering a valid return on investment for customers. "Customers must replicate solutions on their own, rather than relying on companies to burn cash to support them," he concluded.
