The International Atomic Energy Agency reported on Wednesday that it had been notified of a drone strike on a cooling tower at one of the reactor units of the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant in Russia, which occurred the previous day.

The Vienna-based nuclear watchdog stated in a social media post that the reactor unit in question was reportedly operational at the time of the incident, adding that its operational status has not been impacted and no fire broke out as a result of the strike.

The IAEA's Director General, Rafael Grossi, was quoted in the statement as saying that any attack targeting nuclear facilities is completely unacceptable. Grossi reiterated his call for all parties involved to exercise maximum military restraint in order to prevent the risk of a nuclear accident.
