Industry sources reported on Thursday that Samsung Electronics' new Galaxy Z series foldable devices have seen a rise in domestic sales following the launch of Apple's first foldable handset, the iPhone Duo. According to telecom industry data, weekly sales of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 in South Korea climbed approximately 10% sequentially in the period after the iPhone Duo's unveiling.
It is believed that a portion of this growth stems from consumers who had previously delayed their purchases to await Apple's new device, only to opt for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 after reviewing the offering. Industry insiders also point to the iPhone Duo's pricing and hardware specifications as key factors influencing purchase decisions among South Korean shoppers.
In the local market, the 256GB variant of the iPhone Duo is priced at 3.29 million won (around $2,380), which is over 1 million won more expensive than the comparably equipped Galaxy Z Fold 8, retailing at 2.28 million won. Meanwhile, the 2TB version of the iPhone Duo carries a price tag of 5.09 million won. The price disparity between the two handsets in South Korea is notably wider than in the United States, where the difference for the 256GB models is roughly $100.
