President Donald Trump posted on X on September 12, calling on the Smithsonian Institution to install an 11-foot statue of George Washington in the museum's Flag Hall on Constitution Day, September 17, 2026. The statue was featured at the recent Freedom 250 Grand Prix Race.

Trump also requested the immediate design and display of a five-year exhibition worthy of "the Life, Sacrifice, and Contributions of George Washington." He further urged the installation of a 30-foot "Washington Colossus" where the "Infinity" sculpture currently stands. "Replace a sculpture that says nothing about America with the man who, more than anyone else, says everything about America," Trump wrote.

The president stated these steps should mark the beginning of honoring Washington ahead of his 300th birthday in 2032. The post concluded: "Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP"
