The next phase is expected to see capacity expanding to 5,000 tonnes a year.\nLonger-term, the company wants to reach 20,000 tonnes of annual production capacity by expanding production to other countries. That would represent between 10% and 15% of forecast demand for rare earth permanent magnets outside of China, according to Neo.\nTraction motors, used in everything from electric vehicles, electric trucks, and elevators, are the most technically demanding category of permanent magnets, according to Neo.\nChina produced over 94% of the world’s rare earth permanent magnets in 2024, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA).
