Amazon-backed (AMZN) Anthropic and Microsoft-backed (MSFT) OpenAI are exploring smaller artificial intelligence data center capacity deals as they seek to deploy computing resources more quickly, CNBC reported Friday, citing people familiar with the matter.
Anthropic has discussed deployments of about 20 to 30 megawatts in the UK and Nordic countries, while OpenAI has explored similar opportunities in the Nordics, according to the report.
The sources also said discussions have included potential US deployments at that scale, CNBC reported.
The smaller sites could allow the AI companies to add capacity sooner than large projects, particularly as power and land constraints delay bigger developments, the report said.
Anthropic and OpenAI did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
